Addressing Your Depression
Depression is a serious condition that affects millions of Americans. This is a condition that will lead a person to disruption in their life. It can interfere with their family life, their work and their own sense of self.
When it comes to depression there are a lot of misconceptions and misunderstandings associated with the condition. One of the biggest is the belief that it is all in the persons mind or that they can “get over it” if they just try harder to be happy. The truth is that depression is a chemical condition that cannot only affect the thought patterns of a person but also the way the entire body functions.
What are some of the warning signs that you or a person you love is suffering from depression? There are certain items that you need to be on the outlook for, one of these is the fact that you feel down all the time. In addition if you have lost interest in your favorite activity, when you may be suffering from depression.
While we do not know the exact causes of depression we do know that a hormone family called MAOI’s are involved and that these complex chemical messengers, most often associated with mental stability and emotional health. Can get out of the very delicate balance that they need to operate effectively. When this happens the foundations for depression have been laid. In many cases, known as “mild” depression, the body can with time make the needed adjustments to the balance on tit sown and the person will rise out of their depressed state. In other more serious case of depression, known as deep or “clinical” depression the person’s brain is not able to make the adjustments on its own. In these cases the depression, if left untreated, will continue to get worse.
In rare cases even clinical depression has the ability to go away on its own. While this is not the normal case and professional treatment is best, you can do some things to help reduce the impact that depression can have on your life.
Anti-depressants are one way that a person can treat their depression. These are not an exact science in treating a person’s depression. There is a little bit of a difference between each person’s depression. I may have a mild case that requires a lower dosage of medication, while another person will need a higher dosage of medicine.
Another popular and highly effective method of dealing with depression id the use of exercise. The exact reason for this is not known but it is believed that endorphins and adrenaline have a natural balancing capability to MAOI activity. Studies have shown that a person, who exercises on a regular basis, can see a dramatic reduction in the amount of classic depression symptoms that they manifest.
Many times depression can be treated with counseling. A person may be experiencing depression because there are issues that they need to address in their life. Maybe an event occurred that they have never been able to deal with. This is many times a leading cause to a person suffering from depression and as a result not living their life to its fullest.
No matter what it is that is causing your depression, you need to address it and as a result make sure that you get help for it. Never wait for it to simply just go away, this is rarely the case and in the end will lead to further issues for you later down the road. You need to control the depression, and not let it control you and your life.
