(Part 5 of 10)

As you probably know, aromatherapy products are only as good as their ingredients. If you find that there are some products that do not work, there could be several reasons for this. Yet, what you should know is that aromatherapy is a method of using essential oils and that to gain the benefits of them, you do need to have high quality ingredients in the mix. If the ingredients are not at the right level, then the effects of the products is rather limited. So, can you trust those that are selling these products on the web?

It is important for anyone that is considering the purchase of aromatherapy products to find the right results from them. You should do several things to determine if the product is worthwhile to purchase. Do not expect to pay just a few dollars for something either. Instead, you need to insure the quality is right on otherwise the overall product is worthless. Here are some things to take into consideration.

• What is the product made from? The ingredients should be rather natural, not with many words that you can not pronounce. Sometimes, there will be ingredients that work as preservatives, yet take the ingredients seriously. If they do not offer any benefits to you through natural means, then it may not be worth the cost.
• Who is the manufacturer? Learning who is selling it is one thing, but determining who makes the product may be something completely different. Therefore, you will want to determine this information. Learn more about the both companies, the seller and the manufacturer to determine what level of quality you can expect from them.
• How old is the product? Some products do not produce the same results when they are older. Take some time to determine what they are made of so that you get the best results and the best investment in your money.

Aromatherapy products are an ideal solution for you to use. When you take the time to learn more about the company and what it can provide to you, you are well on your way to finding more benefits in the long run. One last method of determining the quality of a product is to look for reviews and bits of information provided to you on the web from other consumers. This is a great way to know what you are getting in aromatherapy products.

(Part 4 of 10)

As you browse the web, you may find many types of aromatherapy products. When you look at all of them, you may become a bit confused. Although aromatherapy is commonly thought of as just a product for scent, it is not. There are many various types of reasons why you can use aromatherapy. Using a wide range of all of these can help improve many areas of your life.

On the market today, there are many products that claim to have aromatherapy benefits to them. You are sure to see that smell is not the only benefit that can be obtained from these essential oils. In fact, you may not see the term aromatherapy on the products but that of essential oils. As long as the product is well made with high quality essential oils, you will find many benefits from them. You can improve your physical condition as well as your emotional state. You can even use them as antiseptic tools to kill germs.

Here are several methods that aromatherapy can be used.

• Inhaling. Still the most common method for benefiting from aromatherapy, inhaling the scent of these oils can help you to gain many benefits. The most common is that of a better mood and the triggering of your emotional control center in your brain. Soon, with the right scent in the air, you will find benefits. Here, the products can be diffused into the air or inhaled directly.
• Absorbing through the skin. Essential oils can be used in products like massage oils and in compresses. They can be added to your bath. In these cases, your skin will absorb them and provide you with benefits.
• Ingestion: If you do have a doctor that prescribes this treatment for you, you may be able to find benefits here. Improving your immune system and allowing your body to have better antiseptic benefits are the benefits here. Yet, this is rare and should only be done with the help of a doctor.
• Absorption through your mouth. If you use products like mouth wash or other gargles, you can get some benefits from aromatherapy products as well. Again, do not swallow them.

There are many applications for aromatherapy that you can use. Make sure that you consider several of these, but only as directed by the product itself. In order for them to work, they do need to be high in quality essential oils.

(Part 3 of 10)

Aromatherapy works in several ways to give you benefits. There are several different products to use as well. The goal of this treatment is to serve as a method of healing or improving the emotional state as well as the physical state, should it be necessarily. To have this type of benefit on you, aromatherapy does have to be administered in the right way, in the right dosage and the right products need to be used. Only then can you find the true benefits of the uses that it can give.

In Emotional Repair

One of the most common reasons to purchase aromatherapy products is to give yourself a scent that is soothing or a smell that brings back found memories. There are many scents that are used that way. Here, the goal of the essential oil mixture is to trigger the limbic system and the emotional control center in your brain. When this happens, your brain works at improving its emotions and allows you to feel better. Aromatherapy in this form is through candles as well as other incense forms that will allow the smell of the essential oil mixture to permeate through your body.

Topical Aids

Another benefit that aromatherapy can provide is that of a topic aid for killing microbes as well as other fungi. Here, you will apply the product to your skin and allow it to take care of the germs or other substances on it. Some forms of essential oils are quite powerful and can give you a complete clean and germ free area as well.

Oils

If the use of the aromatherapy is that of as a massage oil, for example, it is placed onto the skin and the skin’s thermal receptors are activated. This helps to give that warm feeling of relaxation and peace. It also helps that your muscles are being worked which additionally helps to restore a calm in your body.

Other Uses

Although you will not find these administered to the public, there are forms of essential oils that are internally ingested. Here, the uses are many including the ability to stimulate your immune system and to help improve antiseptic activity. They can even help increase urine secretion for use as a diuretic.

It is important for you to understand that all essential oils have different types of jobs that they can do. Therefore, make sure not to try to gain the benefits of internal ingestion from over the counter aromatherapy products. It just will cause additional health problems for you. Yet, as you can clearly see, aromatherapy can do quite a bit for you.

You may have heard quite a bit about aromatherapy in the past. You are sure to have seen the many benefits that it has offered, but have not really thought about it either. Aromatherapy is a method of using the right products to create a scent that is said to better your thoughts, improve your mood or even to help cure you of an ailment that you are feeling. If you have not had the opportunity to use aromatherapy in the past, you should give it a try. If nothing else, you will love the smells and the way that they enlighten the environment you are living in. In fact, that in itself is enough to provide that aromatherapy is a great tool to use.

Learning what aromatherapy is and how it works is something that you will want to know though. It is considered a complementary as well as an alternative form of medicine. In that, it is not said to be the cure all for every ailment under the sun and you should never stop using your current treatments for serious conditions. Yet, many people have found this treatment to help make their lives just a touch better all around.

Aromatherapy uses essential oils to make these things happen. Essential oils are concentrated liquid that comes from a plant. They are compounds that are very strong, in their purest of forms. They are taken from a plant through distillation, through expression or through solvent extraction. They are used throughout your home as it is in your perfumes in your incense as well as in the foods that you eat. This product from a plant is said to provide you with a trigger for your health too. For example, the smell of a specific fragrance may help you to trigger relaxation.

Yet, there is much more to aromatherapy than just this. For example, the term was created in 1920 by a man named Rene Maurice Gattefosse. He was researching how essential oils can help in the healing process. He began this study in part because of an accident in which he caught his arm on fire and accidentally poured lavender oil onto it. The wounds healed quickly, more so than normal and they did not leave a scar. Since then, the exploration of how essential oils work in healing us, both emotionally and physically has been a conquest for many.

(Part 1 of 10)

Increasing numbers of people are attempting to return to a lifestyle that is purely holistic and complete, recognizing the importance of combining the mind, body, and spirit in equal measures to achieve optimum health and well-being. Reputed to be very old, and literally used in almost all civilizations of the world, aromatherapy is one form of holistic healing that is easy to and flexible to be practiced in our daily lives.

Aromatherapy contains organic, natural, unadulterated aromatic extracts, called aromatic essential oils, which come from plant origins. These natural substances display a broad range of therapeutic effects and actions on the body. Many of these essential oils play an important role in our daily lives, each and every moment, and in all occasions. At least one daily consumable that is used by us contains one of these essentials, like many tooth pastes and mouth washes. There are even eatables like some baked goods that are made with essential oils. Aromatherapy, however, refers strictly to the use of essential oils and hydrosols for health purposes and body healing.

Aromatherapy is the art of using the fragrant essential oils derived from plants to treat ailments of the mind and body. The magnificent scent of these oils evokes a variety of different responses by stimulating the olfactory and other sensory organs, which are linked to the areas of the brain which control emotions. It means that these essential oils have a direct bearing on the human constitution, body and mind. A chain of chemical reactions, initiated by this invisible stimulation then takes place, effecting a physical or emotional change in the body.

Aromatherapy is an innovative way to improve the quality of life that incorporates all principles of body and mind. Aromatherapy has already become a part of our lives, although many of us have not associated the name with the actual experience. Each human being has an emotional response, both pleasant and unpleasant, some happy and others sad, to certain scents. So the idea behind aromatherapy is, initially, to find those scents and oils, unique but different for each individual, those evoke positive sensory feelings and emotions. The next step is to introduce those essentials into our daily life to enhance well-being. Natural scents and oils keep us connected to the earth, sparking memories and emotions. They also bring back forgotten memories, emotions and lost luster in our lives.

Pure essential oils are extracted from many parts of the plant (flower, leaf, resin, bark, root, twig, seed, berry, rind and rhizome) and the extracted oils are used to relax, replenish, balance and rejuvenate body, mind and spirit. Aromatherapy is both an art and a science that involves the basic constitution of our body. All these objectives are skillfully achieved by blending required parts of different oils and then creating a balmy complex that is used to create a heavenly experience.
How ever, the results of aromatherapy are very individual specific and vary from person to person. While experts display general agreement about the actions of certain oils, aromatherapy texts vary differently in their descriptions of the properties and characteristics of an essential oil. The basic fact is that no two persons in this world are influenced by the same aromatic oil in exactly the same way and manner. What is more, even the same person can be significantly affected differently by the same oil depending on surroundings, time or mood.

If you need to experience the real magic of these essential oils, you will have to use one of those applications in any part of daily life. Reactions to fragrances are highly individual and specific. Here is small guideline to help you try evaluating some aromas of essential oils:

As you inhale deeply an essential oil for the first time, try and describe the aroma:
* Is it sharp and stinging?
* Is it subtle and smooth
* Is it balanced and tuned?
* Is it light or heavy?
* Is it warming or cooling?
* Is it sweet, spicy, woody, floral, fruity, etc.?

These are some of the basic sensory feeling you can experience on inhaling aromatic oils. Now try and describe how you perceive the aroma:

* Do you like or dislike it?
* Do you associate the aroma with any of your previous personal experiences?
* What emotions do you have that are connected to these experiences? Is it possible to remember them?
* Does the aroma produce those emotions now? Is it repetitive?
* Does the aroma affect your awareness: does it rejuvenate, energize or relax?
Aromatherapy is a science that can not be comprehended so easily; the whole human race has tried to understand its undying mystery since time immemorial. How ever, its magical properties have always mesmerized us with a sense of awe and suspense.

If you’re new to vaporizers, you might not know what vaporizers do, or their benefits. An herb vaporizer is a device used to sublimate (vaporize) the active ingredients of plant material, or any other herbal blend. In plain English, what vaporizers do is heat up your herbs to release the active compounds, without burning the herb. Because your herbs are never burned when using a vaporizer, you are able to drastically cut down on harmful carcinogens and other noxious gasses like carbon monoxide.

If you get yourself a high-quality vaporizer, you can benefit from breathing in pure vapor, opposed to smoke which irritates your throat and lungs. If you’ve been inhaling smoke for any amount of time, you know the pain and irritation. But if you use vaporizers, you can eliminate this problem and give your throat and lungs a much needed rest. The first time you vaporize, you’ll see that the vapor that comes out of the vaporizer is very light, which makes it very easy to inhale. With this, you’ll no longer have to suffer the pain and irritation you had while inhaling smoke.

Numerous studies have also shown that the best way to draw out and inhale the active substances of your herbal mixes is as simple as vaporizing. In comparison with water filters, vaporization remains much better at keeping unhealthy toxins out of the vapor, making for a pure and clean vapor when you breath in.

Together with the health rewards of vaporization, vaporizers offer the advantage of effectiveness. Due to the great efficiency of extracting the active substances in your herbs than smoking, vaporizers will easily pay for itself as you use it. Whenever you burn up your herbal plants, the herbal plants instantly change into ash, making it useless.

When you use a vaporizer, you can heat up your herbs many times to get the active compounds of your herbs. You can continue getting the active compounds until your herbs turn into a light to medium brown color. What this means for people who only need a little to get the results they want, you can save your herb mixture for the next time you need it, making for a very economical solution.

As you can see there are a lot of reasons many people are moving towards vaporizers instead of keeping with the old and harsher way of getting your essences. Now, with technology, we are able to enjoy all the benefits and cut out the drawbacks of burning your herbs. As we covered previously, we can see that although buying a high-quality vaporizer may seem too expensive in the beginning, but with each use, you’ll begin seeing a return on your investment because vaporizers are so efficient.

Combined with study like you’re conducting today, you’ll notice that there is no rationale not to buy a vaporizer. 1) It’s significantly better for your overall health, that ought to be sufficient reason enough for you to buy a vaporizer. 2) For people who have discomfort in their throat and lungs, you are able to alleviate the suffering. 3) By using a vaporizer, the efficiency is maximized compared to regular burning, therefore you find yourself saving money any time you put the vaporizer to use. Not only that, get ready to enjoy clean natural vapor complete with active ingredients, instead of smoke which is full of deadly compounds. It is your choice therefore you know where to start. Buy yourself a vaporizer today !

A lot of people use goat milk with soapmaking, but not everyone knows about coconut milk. Homemade soap with goat milks works really well, especially on people with sensitive skin. Another good ingredient is coconut milk oil. Coconut milk oil is one of the softer soaps, and anyone experienced with soapmaking knows how moisturizing it can be.

There is a difference between using coconut oil and coconut milk. The soaps they produce are very different from each other. You can tell simply by the feel of them both.

Coconut milk is often mistaken for the liquid that comes out of coconuts. Actually, that liquid is known as coconut juice. Coconut milk actually needs to be made from the coconut shell. The coconut is ground up, and it is the “milk” that is leftover.

Coconut milk soap takes the milk, and adds it as part of the mixture with the soap. Coconut oil soap isn’t done the same way. With coconut oil soap, the oil is used as a base, not as the main liquid. This makes two completely different types of soaps.

Coconut milk soap uses coconut milk instead of the water in the lye solution for the soap. It adds a lot of moisture to the soap. Coconut milk soap is very soft on the skin and helps those who are suffering from sensitive skin.

Soapmaking is a little more involved when you are making coconut milk soap. It is partly because when you are mixing the lye you have to be really careful about the temperature you are using. Too hot and your coconut milk will curdle.

If your coconut milk curdles it will ruin your soap. It is best to just throw the batch away. Be sure to neutralize the lye first, before throwing it away, with vinegar.

Test and trials may be necessary, but it will be worth it. Learning how to make coconut milk soap is a good step in your goals to having great working soaps.

When you are ill it can be quite an expensive time, especially now with all the increases in prescriptions and the expense of most of the pharmaceutical products out there. Nowadays a lot of people are considering other cheaper ways to try and find ways to get healed from their ailments.

Aromatherapy has benefitted from these price increases and is now a more popular way of people treating their aliments. The use of aromatherapy oils is quite a simple but effective treatment for many common problems.

The essential oils that are required for this purpose can either come from the plant itself or in certain cases just from the leaves or even the flowers of the said plants. Each of these different sources produces oils that have a different property to them.

You can use aromatherapy oils quite easily by releasing the oils into the air and breathing them in or by rubbing the oils on to your skin. When you use the oils on your skin you can either rub neat concentrated oil on or use a lotion mixed with oil.

There are so many different aromatherapy oils that can be used for different reasons that it would take forever to mention them all. With that in mind we will just concentrate on 3 popular oils for now. These oils are widely used and they are ylang-ylang oil, Lavender oil and Lemon oil.

The first of these oils is Lavender which appropriately comes from the flower of the same name. Lavender is mainly used as a calming influence. Many people like to drop a little Lavender on their pillows at night in order to help them sleep.

The second oil is Lemon oil. This is usually extracted from the leaves or flower of the Lemon tree. Lemon can be great when used as a cleansing agent and as such is beneficial to people with acne. It can also be used effectively in cases of headaches.

Lastly there is ylang-ylang which people often refer to as the cheaper substitute for Jasmine oil. This oil is known to be a great aphrodisiac and helps people that suffer from frigidity or impotence. Because it is well known for being an aphrodisiac it is also commonly used in India for spreading on the beds of couples who have just got married.

In addition to aromatherapy from flowers, this author additionally regularly writes on Whitmor rolling utility cart and wall mounted soap dispenser.

It’s summertime again, and time to break out the sunscreen to help protect our skin and keep it happy and healthy. Much of the unwanted effects from sun over-exposure are due to the generation of free radicals in our dermal layers — a process that continues long after we’ve stepped out of the sunlight. Inflammation and tissue damage occurs on a cellular level, and long term sun damage can result if this occurs frequently. Fortunately, we can apply antioxidant and anti-inflammatory formulas topically to keep our skin happy and healthy after sun exposure.

Essential oils are exceptionally potent antioxidants, with some being researched specifically for this activity in our skin. Oil of Myrrh was recently studied for its free radical inhibiting effect specifically in the chemical interaction between UV rays and the skins natural oils. Myrrh has long been used to natural healing, and the studies show evidence of its healing potential. Every essential oil found in skin care formulas has antioxidant action, and each one has a unique skin healing property.

Creating a personal formula tailored to your family and children is especially fun and satisfying. Making an after-sun skincare formula is as easy as adding a few drops of one or more essential oils to a natural carrier oil base. That’s all it takes! The first and most obvious choice for an after-sun formula is lavender essential oil. We all know that lavender began the modern aromatherapy revolution by healing burns that were caused in an accident — and it will have the same effect on skin inflamed by the sun. Lavender can be used full strength on severe sunburns, and included at low concentrations with other oils for daily use.

For even greater anti-inflammatory effect, try either blue tansy or blue chamomile. Their deep blue colors are indicative of their natural cooling effect. Blue tansy has an absolutely delicious aroma, smelling like a berry patch deep in the forest. Both are included in many natural health skincare formulas for all sorts of dermatitis including itchy allergic reactions which often occur in the summer heat. If you or your child’s skin is particularly sensitive, either one of these oils will make an important addition to your formula.

Everlasting essential oil, better known as Helichrysum Italicum, is a wonderful and profoundly healing oil called for when the most potent anti-inflammatory and regenerative effects are needed. If you’re looking for one of the secret ingredients in natural skincare, Helichrysum is it. You’ll find Helichrysum in blends for scar reduction, wound healing, hair growth, and maintenance of mature skin.

Sandalwood and frankincense are two exotic oils often found in skin care formulas having properties especially suited to helping your skin recover from sun exposure. Both oils have been researched for their anti-cancer activity; sandalwood in particular has been found to be protective when applied before exposure to UV rays, and is very likely to be supportive after exposure as well. Frankincense is considered one of the most broadly therapeutic essential oils of all, with anticancer activity, and proven support for mature skin care. These features add up to a very protective oil for those spending a good amount of time in the sun.

And for perhaps most profound protective effects, choose sea buckthorn. This essential oil has been studied by Russian scientists as a protective agent for cosmonauts in outer space. It’s deep red color indicates a high concentration of vitamin A like compounds, highly regarded for their skin healing properties. Sea buckthorn is useful in virtually any skincare application, and most certainly for an after-sun formula.

Other additions to your formula outside the realm of common aromatherapy include fat-soluble vitamins. Vitamin E in its natural form can even be squeezed from a capsule — be sure to find it labeled “natural”, as the synthetic form is considered not all that good for you. The fat-soluble form of vitamin C is becoming a very popular skin care ingredient as well. Found as ascorbyl palmitate or “Ester-C”, you can open up the dry capsules of powder and add this to your blend.

All your “active-ingredients” will be based in carrier oils. These are cold-processed seed or nut oils carefully made for therapeutic applications. The most useful for after-sun formula are jojoba, avocado, apricot kernel, tamanu, and rosehip seed oils. Jojoba, avocado, apricot kernel are soothing, hydrating, and nutritive. Tamanu and rosehip seed are specialty skin care oils are particularly suited to this use. Tamanu is mentioned in the medical aromatherapy literature as called for in various wound healing and skin care recipes; Rosehip seed has been the subject of numerous studies, helping create healthy skin numerous and diverse conditions. Rosehip has been specifically indicated for reduction of appearance of fine lines from sun over exposure.

Once you’ve chosen which essential oils and carrier oils you’d like to use, just add ten to fifteen drops of each essential oil per ounce of carrier oil mixture. The important thing to consider is not going over thirty-five drops total of essential oils in each ounce of your final product — the reason being that the essential oils are so potent, that they can become irritating if used at too high a concentration.

As an example recipe, you might use one-third parts each jojoba, evening primrose and rosehip seed, and to this add 7 drops each of sea buckthorn, sandalwood, lavender and German chamomile. This is a very potent and effective formula for those with the most concern for the sun’s effect on their skin. For a more simple formula, perhaps for your children, you might use just lavender and sea buckthorn in a jojoba base. These oils are particularly gentle, and should be suitable for even the most sensitive, youthful skin. Use your intuition as a guide, blending with lower concentrations for the young ones. Whatever formulation you choose, it is sure to have a positive effect on the long-term skin health for you and your family.

The author is proponent of the varied and potent healing actions of aromatherapy essential oils. For more, see www.anandaapothecary.com.

Essential oils have an amazing array of scientifically validated therapeutic actions, from antibacterial, antiviral and anticancer, to anti-anxiety and anti-depressant. Now, a significant number of published studies have indicated that essential oils can actually support sleep — offering deeper rest, and more of it. Here’s a look at the oils most commonly used for sleep support, the way to make use of them, and help in selecting the best oils and techniques for you and your loved ones.

The single most studied oil for enhancement of rest is true lavender, steam distilled from the flowering tops of Lavendula angustifolia. This sweet, flowery essential oil seems to be the one most effective to the widest population of users, and has historically been the “go to” oil for sleep enhancement. What makes Lavender unique is it contains the highest concentration of a natural chemical called “linalool”, which by itself has been shown to improve sleep, as well as reduce stress and anxiety.

Lavender is exceptionally safe, and appreciated by the largest segment of the population of any of the oils mentioned in this article. It can be used (and is enjoyed by) the very young and the very old — at the same time, it’s important to note that it will not work for absolutely everyone. There are individuals whom do not like its flowery scent, and when someone finds an aroma unpleasant, it’s probably not going to help them rest! For these folks, experimentation with other oils is a must.

An important point for mothers of very young children: Lavender has even been the subject of research performed with infants. A few drops of lavender oil added to a bath made a significant improvement in the amount of sleep the infants got, they cried less, and even the mothers enjoyed lower stress levels. The researchers concluded their findings were in accordance with all previous research noting the sleep-enhancing, stress-reducing effects of the oil.

For those who don’t care for the aroma, or are looking for the absolute simplest method of use, several papers were published concurrently investigating the effects of a lavender oil pill. The pill contained eighty milligrams of essential oil, and one was ingested daily for ten weeks. The overall aim of the studies was to evaluate the pill’s efficacy in treating anxiety disorders, but one of the questionnaires participants filled out was an evaluation of their sleep. Researchers noted in their conclusion: the lavender oil preparation “had a significant beneficial influence on quality and duration of sleep and improved general mental and physical health without causing any unwanted sedative or other drug specific effects”.

The essential oil distilled from the heartwood of the sandal tree has also been shown to improve sleep. While the test subjects inhaled the essential oil’s vapors, the researchers determined it was the action of the essential oil in the bloodstream that produced the effect of reduced time spent awake, and a longer duration of REM sleep. This indicates the oil can be administered through topical application as well as inhalation, as is also the case with lavender.

A few other oils are commonly used for sleep therapy. These include the chamomiles, valerian, vetiver, rose and ylang ylang. The chamomile oils, both Roman and German, have a long history of use for bringing about a calm state and enhancing sleep, especially with children. They do have unique aromas, such that they are best used sparingly, or perhaps blended with other essential oils. It may be that only small amounts are necessary to produce the effect you’re looking for — it may not be necessary to smell the aroma intensely to achieve the desired result. The oils distilled from the roots of valerian and vetiver are very pungent, and are probably best suited to adults who enjoy their strong aromas. These too are excellent choices for topical application, particularly on the feet (more on this in a moment). Finally, the floral scents of rose and ylang ylang can be very relaxing and sleep enhancing, and might be a great choice for those who like floral aromas but don’t care for lavender in particular.

We then need to look at the actual applications of these oils, and there are really many ways to use an essential oil for enhancing sleep. The most common method is by diffusing the oil throughout the night. When using a diffuser in this way, it’s important to keep it set at its lowest output, or use a timer, because too much of the aroma can actually keep one awake. Sprinkling a drop or two on the pillow or bedspread acts just like a diffuser, releasing the aroma as the oil evaporates — again, start with the smallest amount and work up if necessary. Topical application is best on the feet — they’re a very receptive part of the body for essential oil therapy. While lavender and chamomile can be used undiluted, for other oils, add a few drops essential oil to a tablespoon of almond (or other “carrier” oil) before application. A few drops of essential oil can also be added to a bath, where the oil is both absorbed by the skin and enjoyed aromatically.

There are clearly many oils and many methods that may enhance sleep. It’s important to experiment to find the oil and technique that works best for you. You (or the loved one you’re working with) should enjoy the oil’s aroma, and the application should be simple enough that it actually gets used. When you or someone you love is having challenges getting a good night’s sleep, aromatherapy has a lot to offer, with its brilliant natural aromas and science-backed therapeutic actions.

Through out the ages sexuality has been something that has been a major part of humanity. A lot of people are still trying to find ways to improve their sex lives. Both men and women are looking for things to help them be more desirable to the opposite sex.

Organic essential oils aid intimacy. Essential oils help with sexuality because they can increase sexual desire. Essential oils can also help people medically who are suffering from things such as impotence or premature ejaculation.

Organic essential oils delve in to the body’s hormonal level. Sexuality also starts at a hormonal level. Essential oils are also used to help people emotionally, which can help with sexuality as well.

Every person has different hormonal and emotional levels. There are varying organic essential oils on the market that can help with specific sexual preferences or desires. There are a lot of essential oils that are known to raise sexual desire.

Rose essential oil is known to stimulate and increase sexual desire. It also effects sperm production. Orange blossom essential oil works as an aphrodisiac to attract the opposite sex. It also helps to sooth anxiety ridden lovers to help with their sexual performance.

Peppermint essential oil is often used to stop premature ejaculation for men. Ginger essential oil aids both male and female genitals. For men it improves blood circulation to the penis, and for women it is used to stimulate the female genitals.

Low sex drives can happen for any number of reasons. Depression, anxiety, illness, the drugs they are taking, stress, or someone’s diet are commonly associated with low sex drive. Any of these reasons can cause a low libido.

Essential oils are great ways to spark up the sex life. Be sure to know how to correctly use the essential oil before you use it, however. When you buy the oil ask them if you can directly apply essential oil to the skin or genitals. A lot of essential oils don’t allow it, and are meant to be used as aromatherapy.

The beautiful reddish-orange liquid of Rosehip seed oil is becoming well-known as useful skin and beauty product around the world, as scientific study has recently validated it’s positive effects on many types of skin conditions. The pure oil has produced miraculous results for some, useful for a great myriad of conditions from premature aging and over-exposure to the sun, to lessening the appearance of many types of scarring. Where does this luscious oil come from, how does it work, and perhaps of greatest interest, can it work for you?

Rosehip seed oil is extracted from the seed of a wild rose bush native to higher regions of Chile. The plant is now cultivated elsewhere in South America, with many countries producing the oil as it’s popularity has increased significantly over the last several years.

The oil can be solvent extracted or cold-pressed, though pressing is the optimal method, as there is no chance of chemical traces being left in the final product. The cold-pressed oil is the most natural; the oil has an exceptionally high essential fatty acid content (‘essential’ meaning the body cannot make it on it’s own from other oils), and is considered quite delicate. Rosehip seed oil should be kept in a cool place, perhaps even under refrigeration, away from light, and should be used within one year of storage.

The oil is a fantastic source of natural vitamins and antioxidants – most notably, it contains a version of vitamin A that is very similar to the active ingredient of Retin-A, a commonly used wrinkle-reducing pharmaceutical preparation. Rosehip seed has been found to have the same positive effects as Retin-A without the side effects of over-drying and peeling of the skin.

The first major study on rosehip seed oil was performed in 1983 by a team of researchers at the University of Santiago, Chile. The study’s participants included individuals with diverse forms of skin damage: deep wrinkles and other premature aging, UV damage, radiation damage, acne scarring, burn scarring, dermatitis, and other problems of this type. The oil was shown to have significant, noticeable effects in regenerating the skin, reducing wrinkles and scars, and helping the skin to regain its natural color and tone.

Another later study was conducted on women ages 25-35 with extensive premature aging of their skin. Again, rosehip seed oil significantly reduced the appearance of wrinkles and sun spots after daily application for four months. Research has continued on the oil, with one study noting: “On some skin troubles like superficial wrinkles, chestnut spots and ephelides, good results have been obtained. After 16 weeks of treatment, wrinkles and spots become imperceptible.” The oil has been used to successfully treat a long list of skin related conditions, including: age spots, wrinkles and premature aging, sun damage, scars from acne, burns, and surgery, eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, hyper-pigmentation, brittle nails, and even dry and damaged hair.

In addition to it’s skin regenerative properties, the oil is also a fantastic moisturizer and nutritive agent due to it’s high essential fatty acid content. The oil easily penetrates the skin and is well absorbed – it does not leave an oily feeling, but rather one of healthy skin moisture.

As for daily use of rosehip seed oil, it is considered extremely gentle and can be applied undiluted to the skin. It may also be blended with other oils like jojoba and sweet almond, and will still have wonderful effects at 10% of the total concentration. Further, the pure product makes an excellent carrier oil for aromatherapy – blends with essential oils having skin regenerative and soothing properties are highly recommended.

To further enhance the effects of Rosehip seed, essential oils can be added. Helichrysum Italicum, Lavender, and Carrot Seed oils are highly effective additions. Helichrysum is the premier essential oil for regenerating the skin, Lavender does the same with a very soothing and anti-inflammatory action, and Carrot Seed oil will bring hydration to dry and prematurely aging skin. Add essential oils to Rosehip seed at concentrations anywhere between 1% and 5%.

Using rosehip seed oil for healing your skin or just giving it a little needed nourishment will almost certainly produce positive, noticeable effects. This fantastic oil, with its wonderful range of uses, will likely take an important lace in your natural beauty collection.

Doing your own candle making is very rewarding. You can use your candles personally, give them as gifts, or sell them. You will need lots of supplies to do your candle making correctly.

It is so much fun to use fragrances and dyes in your candle making experiences. You can use one color or scent at a time or get creative and mix several together for something new. With the fragrance you can add it to your wax or put it onto your wick.

There are several different kinds of wax that you can use. Some have natural colors and fragrances. Soy wax is great for scented candles. Paraffin wax is commonly used and comes from refining petroleum.

Using molds in candle making can kick up the creativity. Beginners should try to stick to simple molds. There are all kinds of shapes and sizes. You can buy these molds at most craft stores or you can make your own.

Jars are always an alternative to using molds. They are easier to use than molds because once you pour your wax you are done. The jars can add beauty to your candles through their sizes and shapes.

You will need a make shift double broiler to melt your wax in. You will need a big metal pot and a coffee can. Put the coffee can in the center of the pot and fill water in the pot. Make sure that no water gets in the coffee can. Melt and stir the wax in the coffee can, but make sure you do not burn the wax.

Monitoring the wax’s temperature is very important. A candy thermometer can help you do this. You can add your dye or fragrance to the wax at 185 degrees and pour it into the mold at 135 degrees.

Always make sure you are being safe in your candle making. Make sure that children and pets cannot get in the melting workspace. It is also recommended that you have a fire extinguisher ready incase your wax gets too hot and catches on fire.

Having the ability to make essential oils on your own is very rewarding. There are many ways to make essential oils but the most effective way is distillation. This method uses steam to capture the oil, condenses back into water, and then the water and oil are separated.

Distillation method produces pure natural oil. Chemicals are not used in any process of this method, just steam. Because only steam is used, there is no chance of chemical residue left in the essential oil.

There are three sequences in the distillation method and three pieces of equipment. Where the steam and the plant material come in contact is the retort or still. The steam and oil become liquid in the condenser and then are kept in the separator.

There are three ways that the steam and plant material can come in contact in the retort: hydrodistillation, wet steam, and dry steam. Hydrodistillation is where the plant is boiled in the water and wet steam has the plant on a screen above the water. Dry steam has the steam in a separate container that travels through a tube into the bottom of the retort.

Once the steam comes in contact with the plant, the heat opens the fibers and the water carries away the oil. The steam and oil then travel through the condenser. The condenser is a pipe or tube that allows the heat to escape turning the mixture into liquid.

The water and oil then are stored in the separator. Here the water and oil relax as the oil is sifted to the top. The separator is made out of glass and once the oil is on top, it is bottled and stored separate from the water.

The excess water in the separator, hydrosol, may still have some uses. The purposes of the water depend on which plant was used. In the example of lavender, the water still has the fragrance of its sweet perfume that can be used to freshen laundry, linens, or the air.

Being able to make essential oils in your own home is very rewarding. You can do it as a hobby or buy the essential oils from commercial companies. The method of distillation is very effective and produces pure oil.

Traditional medicine has long employed herbal preparations to reduce inflammation of wounds or achy muscles and joints. In fact, our single most popular inflammation-reducing drug came originally from the bark of the white willow tree: aspirin. Today, many home users as well as licenced practitioners make use of essential oils for inflammation reduction, which in turn reduces pain, which actually reduces further inflammation. Massage therapists have long known that certain essential oils can help speed the healing of their clients, and home users have found the same result with arthritic and rheumatic conditions.

A look at the most recent research gives a long list of abstracts where scientists have validated the inflammation reducing potential of essential oils. Several plants have a long history and strong reputation for their anti-inflammatory activity. Ginger, for example, has an interesting dual-action of being both warming to an area, and have potent anti-inflammatory activity at the same time. Ginger oleoresin (an oil and resin compound) has been successfully studied for its anti-inflammatory activity. Supercritical carbon dioxide extracts of Ginger root, also with strong anti-inflammatory activity, are easily obtained by licensed practitioners and home users to include in their joint and muscle ache recipes.

Just published in the Journal of Lipid Research are the results of an investigation in Japan confirming the anti-inflammation activity in several essential oils. This confirms the therapeutic selections of several — not just any single — essential oil for reducing inflammation. The range of oils found to have anti-inflammatory activity was very broad, from thyme and clove, to rose, eucalyptus and even cold-pressed Bergamot; many of these oils the traditional therapist would not expect to display a significant effect. Also of interest was the notable absence in the research of what are considered some of the strongest anti-inflammation essential oils, namely Lavender, Helichrysum, German Chamomile and Ginger. This of course does not deny in any way the inflammation-reducing action of these oils; instead in bolsters their potential use by noting that even oils NOT considered the foremost inflammation reducers can have dramatic effects.

The strongest inflammation-reducing activity was produced by the essential oil of Thyme, a pungent herb long used as a savory flavoring. Thyme essential oil is highly regarded for its immune system boosting and anti-viral / anti-bacterial actions. Interestingly, the study noted that all essential oils tested reduced inflammation in a manner similar to resveratrol, the long-life-enhancing component of red wine. Inflammation itself is oftentimes a symptom of a strained or challenged immune system, as well as a marker of aging. One’s ability to naturally keep inflammation under control is likely to result in fewer illnesses and a slower aging process. Along these lines, it was the single natural component Carvacrol, also found in high concentrations in Oregano essential oil, that had the strongest anti-inflammatory activity of any of the single isolated compounds from any essential oil used in the study. While carvacrol by itself is actually a dangerous chemical in that it can burn our tissues, it seems to have a multitude of beneficial actions including reducing inflammation, being a strong anti-microbial agent, and boosting immune system function.

Many people find relief from painful muscles and joints through the daily self-massage with a pre-made or home-made aromatherapy massage formula. You can find many on the market with high-grade essential oils that can help, or you may be interested in making your own custom recipe. These formulas typically contain a concentration of 2 to 5 percent essential oils in a carrier oil (like Hazelnut or Sesame). Each one percent is made by adding eight drops of an essential oil to one ounce of carrier oil. Thus, a three percent concentration would be twenty-four drops essential oil in each ounce of carrier. An excellent example of an anti-inflammatory blend would be one percent German Chamomile, two percent Helichrysum Italicum and two percent Lavender. A little research can help you find the oils that will work best for you.

Humans have treasured essential oils for their medicinal and sensory properties for thousands of years. As concentrated, precious substances, the oils and resins from aromatic plants have played important roles in healing therapies and religious worship across the globe. The effort required to reduce large masses of plant matter into oils made these liquids extremely special commodities in early civilizations. Nowhere in literature is this more apparent than in the Bible. In both the Old and New Testaments, essential oils were prized as symbols of wealth, healing, generosity and faith. From the use of cedarwood and hyssop for physical healing in the book of Leviticus, to Mary of Bethany anointing of Jesus’s feet with her life savings of spikenard in the book of John, essential oils played, and continue to play, an important role in the spiritual lives of Jews and Christians. The distillation process for essential oils is a relatively new phenomenon that requires a still and a large amount of water to steam out the essential oils. Most likely, the oils we read about in the Bible were infusions of plant material into other more common oils. This, however, does not reduce their potency or their cultural and historical significance. Frankincense, myrrh and the other oils of the Bible were held in high esteem and difficult to obtain. Regardless of their distillation process, creating an aromatic oil has always been a labor-intensive project. The Bible lists approximately one dozen oil-creating plants by name, including aloes (also known as sandalwood), cinnamon, cedarwood, cypress, frankincense, galbanum, juniper (broom tree), hyssop, myrrh, myrtle and spikenard. It is not clear whether these plants were all used as aromatic oils during Biblical times, or whether they were used in their raw herbal form, yet a strong tradition of using these plants for healing and anointing is apparent in the many references found in the Old and New Testaments. Different resources list various numbers of Bible passages related to using these plants, and there are many opinions on whether all of the plants mentioned are the same plants we know them as today. Regardless of the wide range of opinions on the exact historical uses of these plants, it is important to note that these oils continue to be highly valued in modern aromatherapy and herbal healing, even in light of modern science. The plants found in the Bible thrive in a dry, desert climate with limited rainfall. This sparse landscape has provided some of our most revered essential oils. The essential oils of the Old and New Testaments are derived from a number of plants, ranging from barks to flowers and berries. Cinnamon, also known as cassia, is a pungent-smelling tree bark that rolls on itself when it is desiccated. Other trees, like cedar, juniper, cypress and aloes (sandalwood), were used for wood as well as healing and religious ritual. Another beloved aromatherapy plant that grew well in the Mediterranean was myrtle, a flowering shrub. The resins – galbanum, myrrh and frankincense- also came from trees. The sticky masses were included in incense and frequently lit directly for use in rituals. These valuable substances were prized for their heavy aromas and their ability to keep for many years. Just like in Biblical times, frankincense and myrrh are still employed in instances when heightened states of spiritual awareness are desired. At last, spikenard, sometimes seen as nard, is an herb found in Asia. Treasured for its unique scent, spikenard was brought to the Mediterranean and used in perfumery. When searching for Biblical references to medicinal plants, the Old Testament is the place to begin. Myrrh, one of the first oils to be referenced, can be found in Exodus 30:23-29. After wandering in the desert after their escape from Egypt, the Israelites, led by Moses, were asked by God to have an anointing oil made for the ritualistic objects in the Tabernacle in the Wilderness. This portable altar was carried as the Israelites roamed for forty years in the desert. The oil, which was made from olive oil, cinnamon, cane and myrrh, was used to transform the ritual implements into sacred instruments. The process of anointing both humans and objects can be found throughout the Bible as an act of faith and worship. The birth and death of Jesus both contain references to aromatic oils as offerings. Matthew 2:11 recounts the arrival of the magi at the time of Jesus’s birth in Bethlehem. Following a guiding star, these kings arrived where Mary had just given birth and offered the baby frankincense and myrrh, oils which are still used today to induce spiritual awakenings. During Jesus’s life, he was anointed with oil of spikenard on two different occasions, once by a woman who broke a jar and poured it over his head and once by Mary Magdalene. Mary, who had purchased the spikenard with her life savings, anointed Jesus’s feet and rubbed the oil in with her hair. In each instance, the bestowal of oils were a gift of great worth. Today, the oils of the Bible are frequently used in aromatherapy for healing physical ailments, connecting with spiritual or meditative states and even as offerings in religious contexts. Many of these oils have been used in unison, such as frankincense and myrrh, for thousands of years. Their widespread cultivation and our appreciation for their medicinal qualities have traversed the globe as Jews and Christians have continued to respect and use these rare oils. While aromatherapy as it is practiced today is a relatively new field of medicine, the use of medicinal oils is actually as old as civilization itself. By learning how these plants were used during Biblical times, we can connect to traditions that have recognized the relationship between humankind, the plant world and spiritual awakening.

(Part 10 of 10)

There are plenty of companies that are selling products with the aromatherapy logo on them. Does that mean that all of these products are the same and worth the cost that you will pay for them? By all means, the answer to that is no. There are many companies that offer poor quality and others that offer even worse, products that have little to do with aromatherapy.

Tips To Help You

Here are some simple tips to help you in purchasing aromatherapy products.

• Look at the label carefully. Avoid products that have things like “fragrance oil” or “nature identical oil” on them. These terms do not mean that the product has any amount of essential oil in it. Sometimes they are nothing but chemicals in fact.
• Pure essential oil is not the only thing to consider. If there is a crop that comes in that is not as high in quality, it would be considered pure essential oils as well. Yet, that is not the quality that you need or want in the product you purchase. You also do not want to purchase something that has been sitting for a long period of time even if it is pure in its form.
• Buy those that come in the right container. It should be a dark colored glass bottle that they are stored in. Avoid plastics that will dissolve from the oils. Avoid those that are in light colored glass as these are already being broken down by light.
• A vendor should be willing to provide a test to you. This way, you can see and smell how well you enjoy the product as well as determine the quality of it. They should be able to give you a sample. You should also be able to ask them questions and get good answers from them.

Finding the right products to purchase is important as it can provide you with what you are looking for rather than just any old product out there. Take some time to determine the true benefits of purchasing high quality essential oils for aromatherapy. Then, realize that looking for the right product will make all the difference in the world to you.

(Part 9 of 10)

There are several very important things you should consider when it comes to aromatherapy including how to be safe when using it. There is no doubt that aromatherapy is a great tool to have around as it can lighten the dark cloud that life sometimes surrounds us with. Yet, if you want to benefit from it, you need to know how to use it safely to prevent problems down the road. The good news is that there are plenty of methods to protect you.

Tips For Being Safe

Here are some great tips for being safe with your aromatherapy.

• Realize what they are. Aromatherapy uses essential oils. These oils are very potent and if they are used in the wrong manner can make you, your children or your pets sick. Always follow the instructions for using them that are provided with your essential oils. Treat them as if they are medications and you will benefit from them.
• Don’t use them undiluted on your skin. This is a very bad thing to do as they can seriously hurt you. The only oils that you can use without diluting them are those of tea tree oil and lavender. Again, follow directions about it to learn the best methods for diluting.
• Insure that you are not allergic. Many people are allergic to these especially since they are natural flower products. Apply just a small drop to your skin to insure that it is safe. Also, try to smell a small amount to insure it does not bother you before deeply inhaling it.
• You should not use aromatherapy if you are pregnant, if you have asthma or epilepsy. In addition, if you have another sensitive health condition, make sure to ask your doctor about this use before trying it out.
• Do not overuse the product. There is just a drop or two that is needed to produce the right fragrance and desired reaction. Too much and your eyes may burn, or worse.

When you take the time to insure that you follow the directions provided with your aromatherapy products you will be able to use them safely. You will be able to truly enjoy them without the risk of misusing them. Aromatherapy is then something that brings happiness and peace rather than problems.

(Part 8 of 10)

One of the things that you will need to do when you are adding aromatherapy into your life is to purchase an aromatherapy diffuser. These units can help you to use the essential oils correctly as well as to get the most out of them. Yet, there are many on the market. Not only that, many of them are anything but worth your cost. If you are looking for the ideal choice for your needs, select the diffuser that fits with your lifestyle perfectly and that includes your budget.

How Will You Diffuse?

Diffusion is simply a term that is used to describe the dispersing of the essential oils that you have purchased into the room. The goal is to have the fragrance fill the room with the smell that you would like to. There are many methods to doing this, though. It may not be as simple as you think either. Although you can use many methods at home to benefit from, here are some of the options you can find on the market. They are by far more doable as they do not require as much time to make happen.

• Lamp Rings: These are terra cotta rings that you will be able to place on a light bulb in the room in which you want the aromatherapy to be. The unit sits right around the bulb and the essential oil is placed on a lip around it. When the bulb heats, the essential oil is brought into the air.
• Clay Pots: Here is another option. They look just like small terra cotta pots. The essential oils are adding into the clay pot. Since terra cotta absorbs, it will absorb the essential oils and as it does the air is filled with the fragrance.
• Candles: Here, look for a candle such as a tea light that will be used to heat the plate which holds the essential oils. Candles that come with essential oils in them are okay too, but will not give the same quality of aromatherapy as this method.
• Fans: A fan diffuser is a great tool to have as well. These are as simple as they sound. The fan will spin and send the essential oils into the air nice and gently. Usually they have a pad that has absorbed the oils into it. As the fan blows across this pad, then, it will send the aroma into the air.

Select the diffuser that is right for you and begin enjoying your aromatherapy.
